When does repayment begin?
You will enter repayment and begin making regular monthly payments when your grace period expires.
What is a grace period and how does it work?
- The grace period is the six-month period after you cease to be enrolled at least half-time in school.
- If you return to school at least half-time before the six-month period ends, your grace period will be reinstated.
- You are not required to make payments during your grace period.
- While in grace, the federal government will pay the interest that accrues on your subsidized loan(s).
- You will be billed for any unsubsidized interest that accrues on your unsubsidized loan(s) during your grace period.
- Any outstanding (unpaid) unsubsidized interest will be capitalized (added to your principal balance) at the end of your six-month grace period.
