Apply for Scholarships
Don't pay anyone to find a scholarship for you! There are enough opportunities out there that are FREE! With time and initiative, you can find out about scholarship programs yourself:
- Research scholarship programs through various reference publications available at the library.
- Search the Internet:
- Contact: civic groups, clubs, local businesses, churches, and even your parents' employers.
- Write letters of introduction explaining your goals, both educational and career, and indicate your need for financial support.
- Program sponsors look favorably on a carefully written letter that clearly defines a student's qualifications.
- Your high school guidance counselor can provide information regarding grants and scholarships.
- Colleges often have grants and scholarships which are unique to their institution.
- Contact College Information Service (CIS) at 1-800-554-2717 or e-mail bndsl@state.nd.us to request a FREE scholarship search form. Note: High school counselors and college financial aid offices may request a supply of post cards for students to mail to CIS for the free scholarship search.
Before you apply for a scholarship, read the rules and restrictions governing each program. Students should apply only if they meet eligibility criteria and specified requirements. Remember, if you do not qualify, do not apply!
Don't be fooled. No one can guarantee that they'll get you a grant or scholarship. Refund guarantees often have conditions or strings attached. If it sounds too good to be true, it is!
